A Photograph in the Attic: Part 1

Tammy found a couple of old framed photographs in the attic of her home in Dixon, Illinois. She didn’t recognize the names or faces, so they must have belonged to a previous resident. Years later, when Tammy moved away from Dixon, she packed the photos in a box and took them with her to her new home. As often happens in our busy lives, Tammy forgot about the old photographs.

Recently, as she was going through an old box of stuff, Tammy came across those photographs. This time she was determined to find out who they were, and to reunite the photos with the family they belonged to.

The first photograph was of a pretty, young girl. On the back of the photo it was written, “Francis Hornick, age 14”.

Immediate results

Within an hour Sleuth Sisters were able to identify the girl as Frances Charlene Hornick, born February 6, 1945 in Carbondale. If she was 14 in the photo, that means it was taken in 1959.

More about Frances

As we researched, we learned that Frances married Ronald Dean Jolly on March 17, 1960, just after her 16th birthday. They had three children; two boys and a girl.

Sadly, Frances passed away on March 15, 1995, in Cicero, IL, at the young age of 50. Her widower husband Ronald D. Jolly, born July 18, 1941, passed away on January 6, 2004 at the age of 62.

We’ve been unable to locate their graves but believe they were buried in Stickney, IL.

Is Frances connected to the man in the other photograph?

Next we wanted to identify the other photograph and see if there was a connection between the two. Read on!
